Global GSM subscribers exceed 1.5 billion

Trade body the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) has announced the number of GSM subscribers rose 234.7 million in the first eight months of this year to take the worldwide number of GSM subscribers to over 1.5 billion. The GSA said GSM was now adding one million subscribers every day, and GSM market share in 2005 increased from 74.7% to 76.8%, accounting for 88% of current net additions.
